The 2023 W.O.R.D. Artist Residency Program is an 8-week (June 26 – August 17) workshop program designed to present Montreal youth with the tools and attention they need to create their own original E.P.s (a short album of 4-6 songs). The six participants admitted into the program will each have the opportunity to spend two full days per week in the studio (10 am-3 pm). They will have unfettered access to a state-of-the-art recording booth, technician, and writing and literacy workshops presented by our talented animators. Each Thursday, all six participants will gather for a group critique and collaboration, followed by a guest lecture or activity centred around the realities of living as a creative professional. By the end of the program, all of our participants will have completed their artistic project and contributed to the creation of corresponding promotional materials (professional headshots, album covers, etc.). Additionally, they will have honed their craft and created valuable connections in the artistic field, which will set them on the path to becoming professional artists in their own right.
This program is free and open to Montreal studio artists aged 12-18. It will take place at 3220 Av. Appleton, from 10 am to 3 pm, two days per week. This is a closed-door program. We are renting our studio space, so only our participants and staff should have access during our hours of operation. Additionally, we have organized an accompaniment system so youth who are uncomfortable travelling to the studio alone can meet a W.O.R.D. staff member at Vendôme metro at 9:30 am and ride to the studio with them. They will also be accompanied back to Vendôme at the end of the day.
The application process is fairly simple:
1. Applicants must fill out the following form: https://docs.google.com/
2. They must send 1 sample of their creative work (ex: song lyrics they have written, a video of them singing or playing music, or a concept for their album, etc.) to projetword@gmail.com
3. Once they have completed the form, we will reach out by email to set up a brief Zoom interview. We do this to ensure that any potential participant is aware of the requirements of the Artist Residency, and to touch base with their guardians.
