Food distribution assistant
35h / week - One-year position, renewable

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a reliable and dynamic individual to join our food distribution team. The person will work in two of our programs: food support, which takes the form of a grocery store open 5 days a week, and mobile markets, organized in the summer in three neighborhood parks and year-round in seniors' homes.
It's a job that requires both physical effort and attention to detail. We are looking for a dynamic, calm person with great adaptability, good organizational skills, sound judgment and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. This person will be responsible for the logistical support of our programs to ensure a dignified and professional experience for our participants.

Main tasks :
- Assist the team in setting up and running the food distribution service (Marché Dépôt):
- Product marketing;
- Delivery management (unloading trucks, continuous product rotation, etc.);
- Sorting and bagging of bulk products (nuts, rice, pulses);
- Help participants choose the products they want to put in their baskets;
- Keep the space clean, safe and welcoming;
- Assist in all relevant tasks according to the needs of the department (especially on the road: collect food from our many partners, carry out a home delivery route....)

Assist the Mobile Markets team in their operations:
- Participate in market logistics;
- Help set up and maintain the market stall;
- Discuss with customers, provide information, nutrition resources, and share ideas on food preparation to help sell market products;
- Market cash register.

Assets:
- Strong interest in our vision
- Experience in logistics and the fruit and vegetable sector;
- Have a letter of eligibility for the Emploi Québec wage subsidy

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

Assist the team in setting up and running the food distribution service (Marché Dépôt):
- Product stocking;
- Managing deliveries (unload trucks, product rotation, etc.);
- Bag products (nuts, rice, beans);
- Accompany participants in the grocery store while they are shopping;
- Keep the space clean and welcoming;
- Any relevant supporting tasks according to the needs of the department (especially off-site: collecting food from Moisson Montréal, carrying out a home delivery route....)

Assist the Market team with market presentations:
- Participate in market logistics;
- Help set up and maintain market displays;
- Interact with customers, provide information and share ideas on food preparation to help sell market products;
- Run the market cash register.

Assets:
- Strong interest for our vision of a thriving, resilient community where nutritious, accessible food is a basic human right
- Experience in logistics and the produce industry;
- Able to speak other languages;
- Possess a letter of eligibility for the Wage Subsidy from Emploi Québec

Specific skills and experience required:

- Able to work independently and as part of a team in a diverse community environment;
- Physical and outdoor work: very good physical condition and stamina to repeatedly carry loads up to 50 lbs;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Able to prioritize and multi-task;
- Able to solve simple everyday problems; ;
- Driver's license and ability to drive a 12-foot truck (mandatory);
- Good knowledge of spoken French. The Depot has assessed the actual language requirements for this position and concluded that a basic knowledge of the English language is necessary to interact with our English-speaking participants and customers.
- Available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for shifts that can extend to 8pm. The person will work an average of 2 evenings per week.

- Driver's license and ability to drive a 12-foot truck (mandatory);
- A good command of spoken French is required. The Depot has assessed the language needs for this role and determined that basic - English skills are necessary. We expect you to be able to effectively interact with both our participants and clients who speak English.
- Available to work until 8pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. You would work an average of 2 evenings per week.

Working conditions:
- Salary: 21.04$ / hour;
- 35 hours / week;
- Group health insurance, including partial dental coverage, after the probation period;
- More than 6 weeks' paid absence per year, in proportion to hours worked:
- 4 % vacation pay (equivalent to 2 weeks per year of service) ;
- An extra week's paid vacation in August during the summer shutdown;
- Additional paid vacations during the holiday season (December-January) ;
- nine health days (including sick leave under the Act respecting labour standards);
- paid holidays.

- One additional week's paid vacation in August during the summer closure;
- Extra paid time off during the end-of-year holidays (December-January);
- Nine health days (including sick leave as per the Labor Standards Act);
- Paid statutory holidays.
