- In Quebec, the drop in employment affected full-time jobs (40,100; 1.1 1Q3Q), while part-time jobs increased (+13,000; +1.7 1Q3Q).
- Visit sectors where employment, in number, increased the most were: professional, scientific and technical services (+9,600; +2.6 %), manufacturing (+9,400; +1.9 %) and agriculture (+3,600; +6.7 %).
- The sectors where employment, in terms of numbers, fell the most were: forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction ( 9,300; 18.4 %), information, culture and leisure ( 8,400; 4.5 %) and health care and social assistance ( 7,500; 1.2 %).
- The drop in employment affected both men ( 14,200; 0.6 1TP3Q) and women ( 12,800; 0.6 1TP3Q).
- There was net job creation in the private sector (+9,800), and a decline in the public sector (26,600) and among the self-employed (10,200).
- The drop in employment affected all age groups: 55+ ( 13,600; 1.4 %), 15-24 ( 11,300; 1.9 %) and 25-54 ( 2,300; 0.1 %).
- Compared with June 2021, employment has increased in Quebec (+70,600; +1.6 1Q3Q). The increase was in full-time (+66,400; +1.9 1Q3Q) and part-time (+4,200; +0.5 1Q3Q) employment.
- The average for January to June 2022 shows that employment has increased (+145,700; +3.5 %), compared to the same period in 2021. The increase affected both full-time (+80,200; +2.3 %) and part-time employment (+65,600; +9.1 %).
- Compared with last month, the unemployment rate rose by 0.1 percentage points (p.p.) to 4.3 % in Quebec (third among Canadian provinces, after Manitoba and Saskatchewan), and fell by 0.2 p.p. in Canada to 4.9 % (its lowest level since 1976). Compared with June 2021, the unemployment rate fell by 1.9 p.p. in Quebec and 2.7 p.p. in Canada.
- In June, the activity (63.6 1Q3T; 0.5 p.p.) and employment (60.9 1Q3T; 0.5 p.p.) rates were down.
- In June, the working population decreased in Quebec ( 26,100; 0.6 %) and in Canada ( 97,500; 0.5 %). Compared to June 2021, it decreased in Quebec ( 18,200; 0.4 1TP3Q) and increased in Canada (+257,500; +1.3 1TP3Q).
- Analysis by qualification level shows that employment is up for the «highly qualified »1 group (+13,200; +0.6 %) and down for the «low qualified »2 (-25,400; -1.8 %) and «qualified »3 (-14,800; -2.1 %) groups.
- For the population aged 15 to 64, the participation rate (80.2 %; -0.3 p.p.) and employment rate (76.7 %; -0.3 p.p.) are down. Quebec ranks fourth among Canadian provinces for the participation rate and second for the employment rate.
- Finally, a comparison with the pre-pandemic situation (February 2020) shows little change in the level of employment in June 2022 (-500; -0.0 %). However, there has been an increase in full-time employment (+21,900; +0.6 %) and a decrease in part-time employment (-22,400; -2.8 %).
