The Ministry of the Environment, Minister for the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks (MELCCFP) is a department of the Quebec whose mission is to ensure the protection of the environment and natural ecosystems in order to contribute to the well-being of present and future generations. It is also responsible for managing Quebec's water environment and - since October 2022 - for protecting animal species and managing Quebec's national parks, returning to much the same scope as before April 2014.
At the legislative level, the Act respecting the Ministère du Développement durable, de l'Environnement et des Parcs1 provides for and establishes the department's administrative organization. The government has the option of changing the department's name by order-in-council, depending on the evolution of its role, hence its current name.
